PSYONIC, Maker of ‘The World’s Most Badass Prosthetic’ Hand, Launches Fundraising Round

Company will expand and accelerate the development of its Ability Hand, the fastest and only multi-touch sensing bionic hand on the market.

Bionic technology company PSYONIC announced today that it has launched a new fundraising round on the crowdfunding website StartEngine. The round will support the ongoing development and delivery of its breakthrough bionic hand.

Launched nationally in 2021, PSYONIC’s Ability HandTM was called the “world’s most badass prosthetic” by Popular Mechanics and a “miracle in the works” by CNBC earlier this year.

The tough, light-weight Ability Hand is the only multi-touch sensing bionic hand on the market, and it closes faster than the blink of an eye – in about 200 milliseconds. It is made in the United States and is covered by Medicare, making it much more affordable and accessible than any other advanced bionic hand on the market.

Dr. Aadeel Akhtar, the company’s CEO, first encountered a person with a limb difference as a child when he was visiting Pakistan with his parents. “She was my age, living in poverty, missing her right leg, and using a broken tree branch as a crutch. That's what inspired me to want to go into this field and develop these advanced bionic limbs that would be affordable and accessible to others around the entire world.”

People throughout the United States – grandmothers and veterans, triathletes and teenagers – are already using the Ability Hand. (Watch them arm wrestle, flip a water bottle, and work on the farm.) The company is also exploring the development of a bionic leg, artificial tendons, new methods of providing sensory feedback, and software to improve biointegrated technologies’ functionality, responsiveness, and ease-of-use.

As part of a crowdfunding-based fundraising round, anyone over the age of 18 can now buy shares of PSYONIC through StartEngine with a minimum investment of just under $250 dollars.

The bionic limb market is expected to grow to almost $3 billion in the next eight years, and PSYONIC’s Ability Hand is in high demand among robotics researchers as well. NASA, Meta (Facebook’s parent company), Apptronik, and Sanctuary AI are all clients of PSYONIC.

“We’re redefining human and bringing human-like function to a variety of robotics applications. The market for biointegrated technologies is accelerating rapidly, and we’re right at the heart of it,” Akhtar said. “Like the Ability Hand, we’re going to make sure that opportunities to invest in PSYONIC are available to as many people as possible. You can be part of the bionic revolution, and we hope everyone will join us.”

PSYONIC is a bionic technology company based in San Diego. Leveraging proprietary bionic breakthroughs, PSYONIC’s Ability Hand offers those with limb differences the high-performance solution they deserve. The Ability Hand is the fastest and only multi-touch sensitive bionic hand on the market. With it, users can feel sensation from multiple areas of their bionic fingers when they touch an object. PSYONIC was founded by Dr. Aadeel Akhtar, who was named one of MIT Technology Review’s top 35 Innovators Under 35 and America’s Top 50 Disruptors in Newsweek in 2021.
