Fundraising Round to Close
Bionic technology company PSYONIC announced today it will close its current fundraising round on the crowdfunding website StartEngine soon. (See full details here.) The round has raised more than $2.4 million so far and supported the ongoing development and delivery of its breakthrough bionic hand.
Launched nationally in 2021, PSYONIC’s Ability Hand has been called the “world’s most badass prosthetic” by Popular Mechanics and a “miracle in the works” by CNBC. It is used by people with upper-limb differences throughout the United States, and it is in high demand among robotics researchers as well. NASA, Meta, and Apptronik are all PSYONIC clients.

The tough, light-weight Ability Hand is the only multi-touch sensing bionic hand on the market, and it closes faster than the blink of an eye – in about 200 milliseconds. It is made in the United States and is covered by Medicare, making it much more affordable and accessible than any other advanced bionic hand on the market.
“We're collaborating with the world's most influential prosthetists, brain-machine interface companies, humanoid robotics companies, and research labs,” said Dr. Aadeel Akhtar, the company’s CEO. “Our crowdfunding raise has allowed us to expand the positive impact we can have on people’s lives in tremendous ways, and we want to thank everyone – more than 1,600 people – who have invested. This raise has been such a success, and we’re poised for even more growth and new opportunities.”
As part of a crowdfunding-based fundraising round, anyone over the age of 18 can invest with a minimum investment of just under $250 dollars.
The company is exploring the development of a bionic leg, artificial tendons, new methods of providing sensory feedback, and software to improve biointegrated technologies’ functionality, responsiveness, and ease-of-use. The bionic limb market is expected to grow to almost $3 billion in the next eight years, and the humanoid robotics industry is expected to grow to about $6 billion.
“We’re redefining human and bringing human-like function to a variety of robotics applications. The markets for biointegrated technologies and new robotics applications are accelerating rapidly, and we’re at the forefront of that work,” Akhtar said.
PSYONIC is a bionic technology company based in San Diego. Leveraging proprietary bionic breakthroughs, PSYONIC’s Ability Hand offers those with limb differences the high-performance solution they deserve. The Ability Hand is the fastest and only multi-touch sensitive bionic hand on the market. With it, users can feel sensation from multiple areas of their bionic fingers when they touch an object. PSYONIC was founded by Dr. Aadeel Akhtar, who was named one of MIT Technology Review’s top 35 Innovators Under 35 and America’s Top 50 Disruptors in Newsweek.
